WASHINGTON, February 2, 2018 – The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) today announced its 2017 chapter award recipients and 2018 chapter presidents.

The AG Bell chapter awards measure important aspects of the Healthy Chapter Program Initiative and Action Plan (H.C.A.P.). Chapters earn points for performance that meets or exceeds guidelines outlined in the H.C.A.P. The “Chapter of the Year” award is presented to the top performing chapter(s), as measured by H.C.A.P. scores in areas such as programming, governance, advocacy and membership.

AG Bell Colorado, led by Chapter President Tara Bauman, was named “Chapter of the Year.” Colorado also received the Innovate Award for their outstanding achievements in the Healthy Chapter Program.

AG Bell New Jersey, led by Sue Schmidberger, and AG Bell Virginia, led by Lori Bobsin, also received top honors by receiving the Integrate award based on H.C.A.P. scores.

“As the local touch point for many of AG Bell’s members, chapters play a vital role in promoting awareness about AG Bell and Listening and Spoken Language by providing educational programs, networking opportunities and available resources that help connect professionals and families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing,“ said Lisa McBee-Granados, chapter relations manager at AG Bell. “These committed and passionate chapter leaders exemplify the very best that AG Bell has to offer, and I’m privileged to work with all 36 AG Bell Chapters throughout the year.”
