Support AG Bell
I am in constant awe of the generosity of our AG Bell community. As we embark on this holiday season, I would like to take a moment to personally tell you about a family you helped with your contribution. Every day, families turn to AG Bell for financial aid to help with the extra expenses such as auditory support services, speech-language therapy, hearing technology, preschool tuition and fees, and even money for gasoline to get to appointments!
Now more than ever before, AG Bell needs your help to assist the many families we serve—families who are experiencing one of the most challenging times in their lives. Andrea S. shares how financial assistance from AG Bell was invaluable in providing access to auditory support services that opened up a world of sound for her daughter:
“I am writing to thank you for your generous financial aid award for our daughter. My 18-month-old daughter is beginning to participate in conditioned play during her routine Ling 6 sound checks and even imitates the sounds from time to time. She points to her ear when she hears novel and/or interesting sounds and moves joyfully to the rhythm of music. She loves to "talk" on the pretend phone and often shouts "no!” and "mine" to her older sister when wrestling for a toy. And at bedtime, she sits in my lap and listens to her favorite books, pointing to pictures and listening to me as I label them. Sometimes, she reciprocates and points to the things I say! I have to pinch myself sometimes, wondering how my daughter came so far from that baby who did not startle to anything and was inconsolable to my shushing and soft singing, and that child, who only six months ago was not consistently localizing to sounds including airplanes flying overhead.
We applied for the award with guarded optimism about our infant daughter’s future and I write you this thank-you feeling confident, wholly optimistic and so proud for what she has shown us she can do and her endless potential. She is truly an inspiration to us and we are humbled and grateful. Thank you so much for helping us on our journey towards raising a child who can listen, learn and communicate the spoken word, and flourish just like anybody else.”
