Due to our highly successful outreach events with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, National has honored the Ohio Chapter with a Special Activity Award! This plaque was presented to the chapter at the National Convention in Milwaukee and was accepted by Kelly Halacka-Gilkey on behalf of our chapter. Congratulations and many thanks to the volunteers who made this event successful these past two years!
One of our deaf and hard of hearing section (DHHS) AG Bell members wrote an article in her local newspaper for Mother's Day honoring her mother's commitment to teaching her how to listen and speak as a young child. AG Bell Ohio Raised Awareness of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
The AG Bell Ohio Chapter had a captive audience on Saturday, May 3, 2008 for Better Hearing and Speech Month!
The Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame once again sponsored their Annual Diversity Walk and attracted a few thousand participants. It was a rainy and windy day but there were many brave runners and even more people who turned out to support them! This year, the Ohio Chapter of AG Bell shared a table in the Cleveland Clinic Wellness tent, which was hopping with people seeking refuge from the weather! The crowd at the Rock Hall was enthusiastic and had plenty of time to visit all of the organizations that were represented at various booths and tables, especially those in the tent! Things were hopping!
The Ohio Chapter of AG Bell had materials covering topics ranging from noise induced hearing loss prevention to hearing and speech checklists for parents on normal hearing and speech development. They provided free earplugs, fact sheets with statistics about listening to iPods and radios with the volume too loud, and much more. The event proved very successful and The Ohio Chapter hopes to join the Rock Hall again next year! Many thanks to the dozen volunteers who turned out to help make this a successful event for us! |
