In what may be a first for a Minnesota high school, White Bear Lake Area High School is offering $1000 college scholarships to seniors who are deaf or hard of hearing. Criteria for receiving the scholarship include evidence of community service, a GPA of at least 2.5, and acceptance into a two or four year college. Students with bilateral hearing loss that is mild, moderate, severe or profound will be considered. The scholarship is being offered through a joint effort between the LIONS Club of White Bear Lake and a local family, as well as through the contributions of other families and friends. The White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation manages the fund.
