Overview Volta Voices, published six times a year, welcomes submissions from members of AG Bell and from non-members. All submissions are evaluated prior to acceptance and edited prior to publication.
Audience The Volta Voices audience consists of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing and professionals in fields related to hearing loss (audiology, psychology, otology, social services, education).
Editorial Policy The communications department reserves the right to edit accepted submissions to fit the style, tone and available print space of Volta Voices. Accepted materials are selected on a relevancy and space-available basis; submission of materials is not a guarantee of use.
Feature Articles Feature articles are 1,000 to 1,200 words in length. Articles should be outcome-oriented and should provide specific facts backed by references, current resources and/or measurable results. Topics of interest include the following:
- Technology related to hearing loss - new technology, improvements to or problems with existing technology, or how people are using existing technology and accommodations.
- Education - relating to public or private schools through post-secondary education, new approaches and teaching methods, legal implications, and issues.
- Advocacy - information on legislation, hearing health, special or mainstream education, and accessibility.
- Health - audiology issues related to children or adults with hearing loss and/or their families and friends.
- Action - stories about people with hearing loss who use spoken language as their primary mode of communication; deafness need not be the focal point of the article.
The following are types of manuscripts we most often receive that do not fit our publication needs: - Scholary works more suitable for an academic journal. To submit this type of work to The Volta Review, click here.
- Articles that are overly general and lack action steps.
- Articles that promote or advertise a specific product or service.
- Articles that focus solely on visual communication and do not provide information about listening and spoken language.
Interested authors should submit their story idea to the editor for review, discussion and instruction. Accepted articles will be edited for content and/or length as needed and are reviewed by authors for accuracy prior to printing. Click here to submit an article or story idea.

Final profiles are written by Volta Voices editorial staff and reviewed for accuracy by interviewees prior to publication.
