| Child & Teen Program Registration Deadline Extended to May 22 The AG Bell Convention Child & Teen Program is a great opportunity for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their siblings to participate in age-appropriate activities led by a team of educators, speech-language pathologists and development specialists. | AG Bell Adopts New Leadership Model For more than a year, the AG Bell Board of Directors has been considering a new governance model to ensure the future success of AG Bell as the leading organization advocating for listening and spoken language. A board-appointed task force has been diligently sifting through methods of successful association management and developing recommendations. As a result, the AG Bell Board of Directors recently adopted a new governance model as well as bylaws of incorporation for AG Bell. | AG Bell Launches New Online Career Center AG Bell’s first-ever interactive job board is now available at the new AG Bell Career Center. Employers can post jobs online for a fee, search for qualified candidates based on specific job criteria, create an online resume agent to email qualified candidates daily and, as an additional benefit, have immediate access to statistics showing online activity.
For job seekers, the AG Bell Career Center is a free service that provides access to employers and jobs. In addition to posting their resumes, job seekers can create a search agent to provide email notifications of jobs that match their criteria. Click here to visit the AG Bell Career Center.
| Hey Kids! Become a Playwright! Submit Your Stories! Get involved by submitting a story idea to be acted out live at the AG Bell Convention in Milwaukee! The renowned Chicago-based theater company "Barrel of Monkeys" (BOM) will present an original theatrical production from an adaptation of stories written by children from the AG Bell community at the Opening Ceremony. Kids get to have their stories published in the BOM program and take a bow on stage at the Opening Ceremony. Click here for more information.
| AG Bell Awards $120,000 in College Scholarships This year, AG Bell awarded 27 college students in the U.S., Canada and India scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 as part of its College Scholarship Award program. This program supports full-time students at the undergraduate or graduate level who use spoken language as their primary mode of communication and are attending an accredited mainstream university. FIRST YEARS Application Deadline Extended The online application deadline for the FIRST YEARS Certificate in Auditory Learning for Young Children with Hearing Loss (a distance education program), offered through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been extended to May 31, 2008. This certificate program is designed for professionals who work with children with hearing loss, ages birth to 8 years old. Please visit the FIRST YEARS website for a link to the application, details about admission requirements, tuition information and full program description. Applicants will be notified of decisions admissions in July and admitted students will begin the first course on August 19, 2008. | Nofer Scholarship Deadline Extended The George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy deadline for applications has been extended to Friday, May 30. This program supports full-time graduate students with a moderate to profound hearing loss who are attending an accredited law school, or a masters or doctoral program in public policy or public administration.
This scholarship honors George H. Nofer's service and generosity to the fields of law and deafness research and education. Mr. Nofer, a retired partner of the law firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis LLP in Philadelphia, is a former member of the AG Bell board of directors. The International Professional Section (IPS) of AG Bell is now accepting applications for its 2008 awards program. Awards include Professional of the Year, Rookie Professional of the Year, Program of the Year, Continuing Excellence Award and New Program. Nominations should be submitted no later than May 15, 2008.
