2014 Convention Videos

The 2014 AG Bell Convention in Orlando, Fla., last week brought the AG Bell community together and made magic real! Individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, parents of children with hearing loss, and listening and spoken language professionals gathered to celebrate past milestones and successes and transform the collective future of everyone living with hearing loss. During an opening general session, we celebrated AG Bell award winners and highlighted the 50th Anniversary of ODAS.

AG Bell Award Recipients

AG Bell has a rich, 50-year history of recognizing individuals and organizations that have made the world a better place for children and adults with hearing loss. Meet the distinguished 2014 AG Bell award recipients in this video that was shown at the 2014 AG Bell Opening General Session. More information about the recipients can be found here.

  • Award of Distinction was presented to Jeanine Gleba for embarking on a grassroots advocacy effort to mandate hearing aid coverage in New Jersey. The bill was passed in 2008 and named “Gracie’s Law” in honor of Jeanine’s daughter.
  • Award of Distinction was presented to Jacob Landis who started Jacob’s Ride in 2012 to raise money for people who needed cochlear implants. Jacob combined his love of baseball and cycling and aimed to hit a “home run for hearing.” The ride stretched over 10,000 miles, and he included all 30 major league baseball stadiums. Over six months Jacob raised over $150,000.
  • Volta Award was presented to Ann Geers, Ph.D., and Jean Sachar Moog, M.S., LSLS Cert. AVEd, because of their outstanding and extensive collaboration and contributions to the research and the body of knowledge about the impact of listening and spoken language on the education of the deaf.
  • Honors of the Association Award was presented to John Stanton, Esq, the chair of the AG Bell Public Affairs Council, who has generously contributed his legal talents and expertise over many years to advance issues of critical concern to people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

ODAS 50th Anniversary

The 50th anniversary of forming ODAS was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in March 2014. The celebration was held to pay tribute to the Oral Deaf Adult Section (ODAS) members, its founders and their achievements! More about the celebration can be found online.
